Benefits of Setting up FileChecker as a Service

When you set up FileChecker as a service in Windows NT 4, Windows 2000, or Windows XP (or any later NT-compatible system) there are several security-related benefits:

- FileChecker starts up when Windows starts - BEFORE any user logs in.
- FileChecker is started as a system process - this means that any user that does NOT have administrator priviliges will NOT be able to shut FileChecker down through the Windows Task Manager.
- If you enable the lock-down features and the password protection, you ensure that unauthorized users will not be able to gain access to the FileChecker settings (so the FileChecker watch-list and NT event logging can remain untouched). *

*This step assumes that proper registry access restrictions are in place.
